Happy Fall, Y’all!

FINALLY…it’s starting to feel like fall. The parched, hot weather we’ve been having in NC has been energy-sapping and made many of us wonder whether fall would ever arrive. But then this morning, I took our pit bull, Bella, on our morning walk, and I was wearing my fleece jacket! And leggings! Ok…and my sandals, but still. I’ll take 52 degrees any day!

With any change of season usually comes a brisk re-energizing period for many artists. I am no exception. With the windows wide open and the leaves beginning to change, I feel inspiration in the cooler air. I’ve been working hard on six different commissions this fall, as well as brainstorming new projects, including a series of four cards aptly named, “Monty’s Moods,” based on my hilarious orange tabby (we have three cats: Monty, Trio, and Bullet.

A very early painting of mine: “Monty, Trio, and Bullet Catching Winter Sunlight.” Inspired by the light that floods into our living room through the front door in winter. The cats adore it (our house is cold!).
Monty showing off his handsome self on his favorite blanket (of mine, of course).

Along with commissions and new projects, I’m starting to design and create my new holiday cards! This year’s paintings will feature an adorable pit bull (do we see a theme?!) for my non-religious card, and an angel for my religious one. I like to do one of each type, since people gravitate towards both for their card-sending around the holidays. This year, your holiday card purchase can give back, since 10% of my proceeds from the pit bull cards will go to support the South of the Bully pit bull rescue in NC/SC! More info on the volunteer-based organization here: https://www.facebook.com/SouthOfTheBully?fref=ts&ref=br_tf.

Finally, I know gift-giving and especially shopping can be stressful. It really can help to start early, when you see something that reminds you of someone. Just don’t forget where you hide it! (I learned this from experience, naturally). Right now, you can buy custom paintings, greeting cards, prints (even framed), gift tags, and custom bookmarks on my shop site and get 15% off your order all of October with code 15OFFOCTOBER! As a small business owner (and someone with another full-time job!), I can tell you: the earlier you order, especially for custom commissions or large orders, the better for the business. Because, then we have time to fill the order and really collaborate with the customer on what they want. Happy fall, y’all, and thanks for reading!
